FITNESS ASSISTANT – Senior Living
WHO WE ARE: A large and active Senior Living Community in La Mesa seeks a Fitness Assistant to work in the Care Department of an assisted living facility. Applicant must be outgoing, positive and have a passion for serving seniors.
THE POSITION: Reporting to the Assisted Living/Memory Care Supervisors, the ideal candidate for this position is a recent university graduate with a B.A. in kinesiology with excellent social, communications and organizational skills.
This is an entry-level opening for a career in senior activities. The field of senior care is experiencing explosive growth with unprecedented career opportunities for qualified college graduates. Many executive directors have started their careers in the care department.
The position has a broad range of responsibilities that may include:
- Following the directions of a physical therapist or physician, work with residents, one-one-one, to achieve optimal fitness for age and physical conditioning, taking into account any recent injuries or rehabilitation;
- Leading group exercise and fitness programs, from time to time;
- Giving talks on nutrition, health & fitness and other related subjects; and
- Must be able to work independently and implement general instructions without need of follow-up from supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have the physical ability to lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques. Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level. Fluency in speaking, reading and writing English is required.
EDUCATION: B.A./B.S. Degree in kinesiology from an accredited university is required.
COMPENSATION: $12.00/hour, 40 hours per week, including one week-end day as part of regular schedule. BACKGROUND SCREENING: Company is subject to Title 22. Therefore applicants must pass an extensive DOJ and FBI background screen, drug test, and physical exam at company expense. Work references are required and carefully checked. Must have a clean driving record and current California driver's license.
