WHO WE ARE: A large and active Senior Living Community in La Mesa seeks an activity assistant to work in a four-person activity department. An outgoing, positive and senior-friendly disposition is essential.
THE POSITION: Reporting to the Activities Director, the ideal candidate for this position is a recent university graduate with a B.A. in music with excellent piano skills and good vocal ability. Must be able to easily acquire a repertoire of popular piano music that is performance ready and lead musical sing-alongs.
This is an entry-level opening for a career in senior activities. The field of senior activities is experiencing explosive growth with unprecedented career opportunities for qualified college graduates. Many executive directors have started their careers in the activity department.
In addition to directing the music program, the position has a broad range of other responsibilities that may include:
• Leading activities such as bingo, laughter yoga, chair exercises, happy hour, card games, and ice cream socials;
• Preparing and giving lectures about famous musical figures, artists or writers, leading discussions about current events, and hosting trivia games;
• Organizing, setting up and hosting various special events and happy hour activities; and
• Securing and organizing outside entertainment, including musicians, lecturers and performers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have the physical ability to lift and carry objects weighting up to 50 pounds, using proper lifting techniques. Able to bend, squat, and stoop to floor level. Fluency in speaking, reading and writing English is required.
EDUCATION: B.A. Degree in Music from an accredited university is required. An emphasis on Piano and Vocal Performance is highly desirable.
COMPENSATION: $12.00/hour, 40 hours per week, including one week-end day as part of regular schedule. Paid time off (PTO) accrued.
BACKGROUND SCREENING: Company is subject to Title 22. Therefore applicants must pass an extensive DOJ and FBI background screen, drug test, and physical exam at company expense. Work references are required and carefully checked. Must have a clean driving record and current California driver's license.
